Principal's Comment 2nd November 2023
Nau mai haere mai!
Today was the last day for our Senior Students before external examinations. This is a significant milestone for all students. Year 11 students will be embarking on their first set of external examinations. For our Year 13 students this marks the end of their time at East Otago High School. To mark this significant achievement the Year 13 students have been dressing up in theme for the week. Monday saw them in their Formal attire, Tuesday was a Halloween theme and yesterday was Animated Characters. On Monday the Year 13 students ran the assembly presenting staff with certificates, sharing videos of their time and looking back at photos of when they first started at East Otago High School. On Tuesday evening it was off to Moeraki Tavern where we held the Leavers Dinner. Each student had a significant teacher speaking about their time at school. There were more than a few tears and laughs at this event which highlighted the special character of the school.
East Otago High School truly knows each and every student and tailors their education to their needs. It is exciting to hear what the students are planning for next year and beyond and we look forward to following their journey in the coming years.
A massive congratulations must go to Abigail Paton who has made the NZ Under 20 Women's Rugby Training Squad. Wow, what an achievement and huge reward for her hard work, dedication, mindset and talent. We will be keeping an eye out for her in the future and I am sure this is just the beginning for this young lady.
While having the seniors offsite might seem like we are slowing down this is certainly not the case, the next 5 weeks will be full of activities for the Year 7-10 students with Rite Journey camps, sports week, activities day and Prize-giving all coming up really fast.
So buckle in and lets get the mahi done in the next month.
Nga mihi nui
