"Speed Date an Author"

Leanne McLeod —

Students attend a "Speed Date an Author" in Oamaru.

On Wednesday the 6th of November, eight Year 7&8 students and Mr Walker travelled to Oamaru to Speed Date an Author. Our students had the opportunity to work through three workshops with three published authors, from Wellington and Auckland. The authors were Maria Gill, Melinda Szymanik and Fifi Colston. Their workshops ranged from discussion of how to build non-fiction content into fictional stories. To using the students own experiences and feelings in situations to develop a personality for a character in a fictional story. To creating "SteamPunk Goggles" using paper cups, gold paint and used biscuit packet trays. The students had a fun, interesting, wonderfully busy, sometimes mentally challenging day. The workshops had a mix of students from the North Otago Zone area. Overall our students had an excellent day out to "Speed Date an Author".
