Year 8 Camp

Chris Walker —

All enjoyed Year 8 Camp.

A fresh year brought a new camp for the Year 8’s. We decided to focus on experiencing sights and activities in the Waitaki area. Our camp began with travelling to Oamaru and setting up camp at the Oamaru Top10 Holiday Park. As far as accommodation goes, it has to be the best I have experienced since going on camp with students. It was a home away from home. Activities for the four days included, climbing, caving, abseiling, beach combing, swim and boat safety and going for the walks. For me, the highlight was visiting the Penguin Colony at dust and watching the rafts (groups of penguins) arrive onto the small beach after being out at sea for the day. Waddling up the steep rock face to the nesting area. The observation area was excellently designed, but if you are thinking of going, wrap up warm as the ocean breeze is very chilly. Even in what was supposed to be our summer months.

A big thank you to the parent helpers, without you these sorts of experiences for our student would not be possible.
