Music Lessons with a new twist

Kelvin Cummings —

Music lessons are well underway at East Otago High School ... with a new twist.

This year, over 40 students in the school have signed up for music lessons. These lessons range from the traditional instruments like violin, saxophone, trumpet (etc), to the more contemporary guitar, bass guitar, vocals, keyboards, piano, keyboards (and much more).  This year lessons are going slightly differently.

Keyboards, piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals are all being taught this year by a new online system. Students learning these instruments get an online tutorial booklet, plus a series of tutorial videos which they follow, and check off into an online profile/checklist. Mr Cummings (Head of Music) has created this online way to learn so that any student can learn at their own pace, without taking up too much of their valuable time in other classes.

Music lessons for orchestral based instruments are still being taught by specialist teacher Aart Brusse. These include violin, cello, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, plus many more.

If you want your student to learn a musical instrument at school this year (or would like to know more about how to learn music online), simply email Mr Cummings at csk@eohs.school.nz with the student's name and the instrument that he/she would like to learn.
