Year 12/13 Biology Field Trip

Marcus Cooper —

On Wednesday 27th - Friday 29th of March the Year 12/13 Biology class went on a field trip to Mt Cook/Aoraki.

The students were completing field work for two achievement standards looking at the sustainability of tourists and tramping at one of our national parks. The three days included conducting quadrats in different areas of the park, looking at the native flora in different altitudes and parts of the tracks. Students were also given some presentations from DOC workers about the unique flora and fauna as well as the effect that tourism and tramping can have on the area. The walk up the Sealy Tarn proved to be the most challenging part of the trip but had some of the best views.
