BUSINESS / APPRENTICEHIPS

Grow Regions - He Poutama Rangatahi (HPR)

  • Aimed at rangatahi (the younger generation) most at risk of long-term unemployment and who may need extra individualised and ongoing support to connect to training and employment
  • Applicants should email their completed expression of interest form to HPR@mbie.govt.nz

Grow Regions - Māori Trades and Training Fund (MTTF)

  • For projects that will be Māori-led and support people into meaningful employment through in-demand skills that will aid their long-term employment
  • Applicants should email their completed expression of interest form to MTTFund@mbie.govt.nz

Grow Regions – Region Apprenticeships Initiative (RAI)

  • Available to any employer taking on fewer than 10 new apprentices who are participating in the NZ Apprenticeship scheme or other Level Four industry training qualification
  • Focuses on displaced workers (e.g. helping people who have lost work due to COVID-19), and Māori and Pacific Peoples
  • While the majority of the fund has been committed, Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) will still be able to apply for RAI funding through third party providers. Email expression of interest form to: RegionalApprenticeshipInitiative@mbie.govt.nz

COMMUNITY GENERAL

Otago Masonic Charitable Trust Grants

  • Grants available annually to community groups involved with youth, disadvantaged or the elderly and individuals throughout Otago
  • Application forms and guidelines may be obtained from any Masonic Lodge in Otago or from The Secretary, Otago Masoni Charitable Trust, PO Box 315, Dunedin 9054; info.omct@xtra.co.nz; 03 454 2533 (Mr Grant Watson)
  • Closes 31 March each year

CULTURE / ARTS

Arts and Culture COVID Recovery Programme – Creative Spaces

  • For places in the community where people with mental health needs, disabled people, and those looking for social connection, are welcomed and supported to practice and participate in the arts
  • To fund new roles or additional hours for existing roles to expand the organisations’ services beyond its existing client base
  • Up to $150,000 a year over three years. Separate funding will be available for training and development (more information coming soon they said)
  • Opened 24 February and closing 24 March 2021. Round two will open early May in case creative spaces need more time and support to apply

TERTIARY EDUCATION / SCHOLARSHIPS

Fees Free

  • For first-time learners who may be able to get one year’s study or two years’ training fees-free
  • Enter the National Student Number (NSN) in the online tool to check eligibility
  • If eligible for Fees Free and 2020 studies were affected by COVID-19 then submit a COVID-19 Entitlement Appeal

Horticulture NZ Industry Training Scholarships

  • NZ students and trainees who have a special interest in the fruit or vegetable industry and are undergoing significant industry training or education. Value $500 for one year.
  • They also offer Undergraduate Scholarships ($4500) and Postgraduate Scholarships $10,000)
  • Closing 20 March 2021

John Hodgson Pastoral Science Scholarship

  • For the support of students enrolled at postgraduate level in studies in the field of or related to Pastoral Science at any NZ institution
  • Up to $5000 for one year. Postgraduate, research, part-time or full-time
  • Closing 10 March 2021

New Horizons for Women Trust - Specific Purpose Grants are open from 1 March to 15 April:

  • Association of Women in the Sciences (AWIS) – managed by New Horizons for Women Trust to support women studying STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics); $9000 for 1 or 2 awards includes 1 year AWIS membership
  • Career Change Award – for one woman of 35+ years, changing her career focus and entering a non-traditional field for women. $3000
  • Gwen Ryan Educational Award for Migrant-Refugee Women – for one migrant/refugee woman undertaking tertiary education. $3000
  • Outward Bound Classic Course Award - personal development opportunity for a woman who is planning to return to education and/or training. One award of $4349 plus expenses
  • Outward Bound Discovery Course Award - personal development opportunity for a woman who is planning to return to education and/or training. One award of $2,680 plus expenses
  • Refugee Study Awards - for a NZ tertiary qualification, and not been through NZ school system. Up to two awards of $3000, one-off grant to help with study and/or living expenses
  • Sonja Davies Peace Award - for a woman or group led by a woman promoting initiatives that advance peace in NZ. One award up to $4000
  • Te Reo o Te Hākui Award – women of 25+ years enrolled in a Te Reo Māori course or qualification with Te Reo Māori components. One off grant to help with study, travel and/or living expenses
  • Teupoko'ina Utanga Morgan Memorial Innovation Award - for women of Pacific descent to study early childhood education, or for awards for innovation in Pasifika early childhood education. One award of $5000

Pronto Finance Scholarship

  • For students enrolled in their first year at the University of Otago, studying a Bachelor of Commerce (Bcom) degree
  • Value of $500, one or more awarded each year. Closing 31 March 2021

University of Otago Undergraduate Scholarships

  • Campbell-White Scholarship - studying towards a full-time degree of Bachelor of Surveying or Applied Science, or Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology, Surveying, or Applied Geology. $3000. Closing 31 March 2021
  • Eileen Rewa Begg Scholarship - assists students in financial difficulty to undertake a full-time undergraduate study within the University of Otago Business School; Embarking on the second year of the course of the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. $2000. Closing 31 March 2021
  • Sophia Michelle McMillan Crestani Memorial Scholarship - For a female second-year student studying Mathematics. $4500 towards living costs. Closing 23 March 2021
