Miss Foster —

Kia ora,

We have had very busy and productive terms in the Art classes. Term Three and the start of Term Four is especially busy as the Senior Students are working on finishing their work for their folios. There is some great work that the senior students have produced. Their folios will be set up in the Business studies/Digital Technology room which is next to the School library on Friday 20th of October over lunchtime for students ,staff and whanau to view the folios before they are sent away to be marked.

The Year 9 and 10 students who are doing the mural option have also been very busy working away on their murals that will be displayed both in the school and also in the Palmerston community. It has been great to see the interesting way the students have responded to the theme of creating murals that reflect the local community and environment in which they live.

The Year 7 and 8 students have been looking at Still Life in art and have been sketching from still life objects including clay cupcakes they made. The theme over the past few weeks has included a sea theme and the students have been using a range of media, including pencil, dye and crayon as well as soft pastel to record images of paua shells and fish. They have then used air dried clay to create sea creatures looking at proportion and attention to detail.

I have been super impressed with the creativity of the students at East Otago High School. I am looking forward to having all the new murals on display in the school and in the community. There are also new displays of students' work to view in the school library.
