PALS TRAINING

Lisa Agnew —

On Friday morning the PALs (Physical Activity Leaders) arrived at the Edgar Centre for Physical Activity Leader Training.

East Taieri School were joined by Opoho, Wakari, and Grants Braes.  We were divided into three groups , the parrot group, the monkey group and the dog group.  During the morning we rotated around three activites.

One of the activities focused on how we could be good leaders.   During this activity we had to think about what personal qualities a good leader needs and about how to be a good role model.

Another activity we went to was about physical activity.   We discussed exercise and how it is good for our physical wellbeing, social wellbeing, mental wellbeing and spiritual well being.  We were very active during this session.

The third activity was about inclusion and how to adapt games to suit different people.  We learnt about the STEP model.  STEP stands for:
SPACE - change the area available to make the game more or   less challenging
TASK - Adjust the demands of the task.   Be flexible.
EQUIPMENT - Modify the size, shape, weight or colour of the equipment.
PEOPLE - Use different grouping based on participants skill.

The morning was great and exciting.  We all had fun participating in the different activities.
