ROOMS 1 & 2 VISIT OROKONUI

Janine Clague —

On Tuesday 4 June Room 1 & 2 had a wonderful visit to Orokonui on a chilly winters day. Below are some poems about the day.

O utdoors with nature wrapped around me

R ough rocks cover the trails as we stagger up the mountain

O ozing clay slides slowly through my shivering hands

K inds of birds flutter and dive all over the hill

O bserving from the damp and dark stoney trails

N ew and old tree swaying in the light wind

U nwanted guests are well kept out by an electric fence

I had a great time at this tree covered ecosanctuary

Matilda

I see luscious green trees waving in the chilly southerly

I hear the birds chirping happily singing to each other

I can smell the green kiwi poo wafting up my nose

I feel the bitter wind blowing my face off

I can taste the freezing cold air filling my small lungs

Rebecca

All I can see is a vast sea of trees

The cold wind hits me as I buckle at the knees

Crunch, crunch I hear the path underneath me

We approach the birds, but soon they flee

Hiding in burrows out of sight kiwis wait sleepily for the night

Birds begin playfully singing

The group stands joyfully listening

Chelsea

Goosebumps slowly sneak up my arm

Dew glistening on long bright green grass

We creep through the forest

Disgusting smells fill the air

We cheerfully run to out next activity

We observe the simple but smart spider trap

Shivering my way back to the building

Freezing cold winds sneaks up my back.

Shae

O utdoors like you have never seen before

R olling poo bombs in the palm of my hand

O utdoor life feeling the breeze

K ids freezing in the cold wind like an ice cube

O bserving the amazing mountain

N ice fluttering bellbirds over head

U nbelievable colossal volcano

I ndependently running down the track
