The Government’s Education Priorities under their 100-Day Plan

Jennifer Horgan —

The Government’s Education priorities under their 100-day plan include two new policies for schools: - One hour a day of reading, writing and maths in primary and intermediate settings. - New student mobile phone rules.

Cellphones and Text-capable Devices

As per our School Policies and Procedures:

East Taieri School does not allow students to have cellphones or text-capable devices at school.

If a student brings a phone or text-capable device to school, they must hand it in to the office before school, and pick it up again after school. If a student is observed with a phone or text-capable device, they will be asked to take it to the office.

If possible, students should lock their phones and text-capable devices before handing it to staff. Cellphones and text-capable devices may not be taken on EOTC events.

One Hour a Day - Reading, Writing and Maths

Attached below are the guidelines which all kaiako are following. At East Taieri School reading, writing and maths are integrated within different curriculum areas throughout the day, as well as in explicit teaching sessions in each area.

Any feedback from our community on these new guidelines is welcome. Please email me: jennifer @east-taieri.school.nz
