MATARIKI CELEBRATION

Garth Powell —

Thursday 27th June - 5:30-6:30pm at East Taieri School

Matariki signals the Maori new year, that begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster (the Pleiades or Seven Sisters). It is a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.

To celebrate this we would like to invite you to a special Matariki night at East Taieri school on Thursday the 27th of June.

WHEN: 27 June 5.30 - 6.30PM

WHAT: Everyone will meet together on the court outside the Owhiro Centre.

Bring a mug to have soup in.

Year 6 children will welcome the community. Then the order of events will be as follows:

  • Junior Team - Matariki Macarena

  • Junior/Middle Kapa Haka

  • Senior Kapa Haka

This will be followed by a Karakia before we share food (soup and rolls) together in the Owhiro Centre.

Could you please bring a gold coin donation to help with transporting our Senior Kapa Haka children to Polyfest.

For catering purposes we need to know numbers of people attending. Can you please let your class teacher know no later than the evening of Monday the 24th of June.

We will look forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards,

East Taieri Staff.
