PROGRESSIVE ACHIEVEMENT TESTS (PATS)

Jennifer Horgan —

PATs are a series of standardised tests developed specifically for use in New Zealand schools. PATs are just one assessment tool that teachers use to inform their overall teacher judgement of student achievement.

The results from last term's PATs (Years 3-6) were shared with the Board of Trustees at last Monday's meeting. We were pleased with the results which showed that our norms across all year levels for Listening Comprehension,  Reading Comprehension, Reading Vocabulary and Maths were above the National Norms apart from Year 3 Listening Comprehension and Year 5 Maths which were at the National Norm. The STAR reading test results are included as well. STAR tests are standardised assessment tools, designed to supplement the assessments that teachers make about their students' progress and achievement in reading.

Results are graphed using a box and whisker plot. Box and whisker plots have a ‘box’ with a line drawn at the median. One whisker (the vertical line) is drawn from the upper quartile of the box to the maximum score and the other whisker is drawn from the lower quartile to the minimum score.

See results below:

East Taieri results are shown in colour while National data is shaded.

Parents are welcome to request their child's PAT results at any time.
