YEAR 5 CAMP 2022

Joanne Bryson —

Camp looked a little different for the Year 5's this year with no overnight stay. This didn't stop us from having lots of fun and experiencing the challenges that Year 5 Camp provides.

'Flutter, Flutter!' The birds ran off as we trampled through Tirohanga Camp. Our first activity was yabbie catching. At first we sat by the deep pool, hanging our thin lines of string with raw, juicy meat. It was quite crowded so Pippa, Vanessa, Paget, Tracy and I went down stream. There was this cute little rock ledge that we stood on. Tracy told us there was a yabbie by Pippa and I led her stick to it. We lifted it out of the water three times, but each time it dropped. The next group caught it and we decided to name it Clipper.

"Oww" I said as I fell off the climbing wall. It hurt, my mouth was filled with grass as my lip and teeth bled. "Gosh, are you all right?" said my BFF's as they helped me up. "Yep, I'm all good" I said. Then we did the confidence course it was fun because there were lots of climbing and needing to be resilient. The next activity was catching yabbies. But when I was catching yabbies I got stung on the head. "Oww" I said again! It was not fun because because I felt dizzy. Gus' mum give me an anti histamine so it would help with my wasp sting. It really hurt but George and Emily made me feel better. Gosh, lucky Archie's mum was there as she is a nurse.

"Argh!" I said as I jotted awake. Then I quickly scrambled out of bed. It was the second day of camp and I couldn't wait. I was bursting with excitement! I quickly ate my breakfast and rushed to school. After that we got called in for our numbers. My number was 29. "1, 2, 3...29" Then after 100 years (give or take 100) we were finally ready for camp. We got to have free time so I ran down the hill to play the ball game. After another 100 years (man this is taking a long time) we went on to our first activity...Yabbie catching! Firstly I went upstream were nobody was and I stayed there for 15 minutes. Then I went down stream and stayed there for the rest of yabbie catching until...I felt a huge tug on my line. I slowly pulled it and I got it. I was so happy that I did a cartwheel (okay I didn't) so that was the end of yabbie catching. "On to bivvie building and dayline" I exclaimed. At morning tea I said "Yabbie catching flew by like a dream" After morning tea we went over to bivvie building and did the day line. I was the guide and Ryan was the blindfolded person. I guided him swiftly to the finish line and then we built our bivvy with some parents. Then I aced the confidence course and drove back to school.

I jumped out of bed ready for another day of camp hoping today would be as good as the last. "Activity day today" I thought to myself. When I got to school I saw Madison in the car park, by the time we got into school I was so excited for the day. When we got to camp we had around an hour to have some free time so Madison, Chloe, Vanessa and I went on the trampolines. After we had finished our free time we went up to the top to number off, my number was 31. We were then sent off to our first activity. My group's first activity was yabbie catching. We managed to catch 4 but I didn't catch any. Pippa found one but couldn't get it in the bucket. Madison got the exact same one in the bucket when working with her dad. Chloe screamed because we thought it was creepy looking. After a wee while we heard the whistle go 'squeak, squeak' so we went up for morning tea.
