JUNIOR TEAM - SHAPE JOURNEY

Natalie King-Begg —

Last Friday the Junior Syndicate took part in a shape journey. As part of our maths learning we explored shapes and their properties.

The children started off together learning about beekeeping from Emma Jowett in Room 9. We found out that the bees make honey in hexagonal shapes. Following this Jo talked to us about how to make bread. We have been learning about where things come from as part of our 'Make and do' inquiry, and bread was one of these things. We found out you can make bread in to shapes. One of these shapes was a sphere.

After this we rotated around different activities in all the Junior classes. We found out about 3D shapes like cylinders, spheres, cubes and cones. We even got to go outside hunting for them in the playground. There are shapes all around us - they make up most things we use and go together to make objects. We made rockets, tractors, houses and patterns. We had a lot of fun while we were learning!
