RIPPA RUGBY TOURNAMENT

Rachel Phillips —

Last Tuesday we took 4 teams into the Logan Park artificial fields to play in the Dunedin Metro Rippa Rugby Tournament. Our two Year 3/4 teams had four pool games each and our Year 5/6 teams had five pool games! Everyone played their best and it was fabulous to see all teams confidence grow throughout the day. Yr 3/4 ET Navy made it into the semi-finals, coming up against a very well drilled Waikari team, unfortunately they went down 7-5 and finished 3rd equal in their grade. Yr 5/6 ET Purple had a fantastic day winning all 5 of their pool games, they comfortably beat Fairfield in their semi-final and moved into the final against St Mary's. It was an extremely tough game and there were some tired legs, playing game number 7 of the day! After a seesaw battle, St Mary's pulled away with an extra try and won 7-6. Congratulations to ET Purple for not only their amazing results but their sportsmanship, positivity and resilience. I have had many emails and comments from parents and other schools coaches about our amazing behaviour and the sportsmanship our teams showed.

ET Navy and ET Purple have made it through to the Otago Finals and will play another tournament at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Monday the 20th of June! Good luck!
