CEMETERY ROAD UPGRADE

Jennifer Horgan —

Cemetery Road Upgrade starting Monday 28 June.

Cemetery Road Upgrade

The Dunedin City Council starts upgrading work on Cemetery Road on Monday, 28 June. This will include roading improvements and new stormwater and water pipes.

Due to the space needed for a safe worksite, pedestrian access along Cemetery Road from our school carpark entrance to the Kinmont underpass will be closed. Vehicle access will still be available although the road will be restricted to one lane, with temporary traffic lights in place.

The contractor, Fulton Hogan, will lead a walking bus for school students who live in Kinmont. Before school, this will leave from the Kinmont side of the highway underpass at approximately 8.30am. After school, it will leave from the school carpark entrance at approximately 3:05pm.

This project aims to allow our area to cope with the expected increase in traffic and water demand due to the development of a residential subdivision and retirement village accessed from Cemetery Road.

Without upgrading, the existing infrastructure would not be able to meet future needs.

Work will comprise two raised crossings, a shared path on one side and a 1 – 2m wide footpath on some sections of the other side and new kerb and channelling and lighting.

A larger watermain will be installed to accommodate the increased demand. New stormwater pipes will be installed to tie in with changes to the road layout.

DCC contractors and staff have talked to our school about the work and have worked with us to minimise disturbance. The work is expected to be completed by February 2022.
