KOHEKOHE AND NIKAU

Janine Clague —

Kohekohe (Room 1) and Nikau (Room 2) have been having a wonderful time with their home learning. They have done extremely well to stay motivated and take responsibility for their own learning over the past few weeks. The children have continued with their core subjects reading, writing and maths. Along with this they have had time to do lots of interesting and creative activities including baking, art work, marble runs, scratch projects and much more. It has also been a chance for them to spend quality time with families and do lots of outdoor activities.

Some examples of lockdown writing:

Rugby Acrostic Poem

Running with the ball

Under the posts is the place to score the try

Grass flying in my face as I dive

Bowling people over

Yelling coming from the sideline

Spring is a time when lambs come near

Party in the sun all day everyday

Rain has gone away to another place to stay

I love spring when the sun is out

Now winters over we can enjoy the fun

Grass and plants growing tall and green

The Bridge!

It was a sunny Tuesday morning. My sister and I were getting ready for our first day of college. At the open day, the headmistress, Mrs Horgan, had warned us about a lopsided bridge that some pupils would have to use to get to school. Of course, I thought nothing of it, that was, until mama lost her job and we had to move to a much smaller house that did not cost much. The paint on the walls were crusty and falling off, while the roof had caved in years ago. But mama didn't seem to mind. She said it ‘felt like home’. My mum gestures for me and tayla to come to her. She pulls us into a big hug. ‘Have a good first day, you two. And don't get into trouble!’ Said mama, blowing us both a kiss as we ran out the door. ‘Bye mama!’ We chorus, waving goodbye. Finally, a few minutes later, we reached the bridge. ‘It really is lopsided!’ I murmur, as a flash of worry spreads over my face. Tayla laughs. ‘Ha ha! You're scared!’ She says in a tsk tsk kind of voice. If you asked me, Tayla looked just as scared as I felt. The bridge looked awfully wet and slippery. If anything, me and Tayla would probably get scared and jump off - and hurt ourselves badly - or die. I fidget with my ripped top. ‘Come on, let's get this over and done with.’ As we step onto the slippery bridge, it creaks like a floorboard. Now we’re both really scared. I clench onto the top of a wood piece and step onto the rope at the bottom, which used to keep people safe. As we walk across the bridge, my heart begins to slow down. ‘All went smoothly.’ I think to myself. All went smoothly until...SNAP! A piece of flooring fell down into the musty river below us. ‘Hurry up Tayla! Get out of here!’ I yell, rushing onto the other side of the bridge. I hold onto another piece of wood as I walk across. Finally, we reach the end. ‘At Least that's over!’ Tayla says, breathing heavily. I laugh, ‘We still have another trip over this bridge!’

WHEN I WENT TO DISNEYLAND

As I walked happily into Disneyland, Los Angeles in America, there was a sea of people chattering and squealing happily. Adrenaline rushed through me. I was happy, excited and nervous all at the same time because it was the first time I had been.

I could hear happy music playing and people laughing.

As I walked through the excited crowd I saw a huge pink castle glowing up lots of different colours. Skipping into the castle (turns out you can't go inside the Disney castle - it is a walk way to Fantasyland )

Lots of shows were going on. There was a Mickey Mouse Treasure one and a Donald Duck and Daisy Duck one as well.

Then I saw……. The RIDES.

There was a Dumbo ride, a roller coaster called the Increda-coaster and a bobsled at Splash Mountain (that is a roller coaster when you go through water, and it felt like you were about to die).

My favorite ride was the bobsled because it felt like you were falling out of the sky. There were also yetis jumping out at you from behind a rock. I get scared really easily; especially when something jumps at me.
