This life raft looks at the importance of students being able to manage themselves in different situations. With their thinking in control, opposed to their feelings, students are better able to do the right thing because it is the best thing to do.

Some key questions that we get students to think about are:

• Why is it important to learn how to be your own boss with the strength to do what you know is right?

• Being strong enough to be sensible has many advantages. What are some of those advantages
  - at home?
  - in school?
  - with friends?
  - in sport?

• There are many people who think it’s ‘tough’ to do the wrong thing, upset people, and make their class/school community unsafe. Why are they wrong? What is their behaviour really saying about them?

• Having the strength to be sensible lets people trust you. Name the various ways you are trusted by others (parents, teachers, friends, community)?
