O'MATHALON 2019

Joanne Bryson —

Thursday 29th August 16 excited mathematicians competed in this years O'Mathalon competition

It was the beginning of the O'Mathalon and everyone ran off to get their first questions. Nate arrived with our first question. It was quite hard but we managed to solve it. Then Nate ran off to get the next question. This one was harder than the first question so we decided to scrap it after 3 tries and get a new one.  This time the question wasn't as hard but still challenging. We managed to get through that question and were onto the next. After that we worked through a few more and then the time was up. It went silent! Sadly East Taieri did not place anywhere but the Year 6's gave us a hint of team work and that seemed to help us quite a lot.

The O'Mathalon was tricky, stressful but a good experience for me. Some of the questions were very, very hard (too hard) but I found working together as a team was successful because we could all share ideas. There was a lot of distraction such as shouting and I felt like we didn't have enough time to complete all of the questions. The questions were similar to ICAS but way harder.
