BOARD OF TRUSTEES UPDATE

Jennifer Horgan —

Just keeping you up-to-date with BOT news.

Senior Block Upgrade

We are waiting for final approval from the Ministry before we start the upgrade of the senior block, which will give much needed 'break-out spaces' for the four rooms, glass doors onto a deck at the back, a Senior Dean's office, remodelled 'wet areas' and a general modernisation of the block.

Road Safety Issues

We have been concerned with the road safety issues associated with the new subdivision at the end of Cemetery Road.  To date we have been unsuccessful in our request for limiting truck movements on Cemetery Road  for an hour before and after school.  At present trucks are not to be on the road between 8.30am and 9.00am and 3.00pm and 3.30pm.  The Board is working with the Dunedin City Council to ensure the safety of the East Taieri School Community. Please take extra care over the next few months while work on the subdivision is in progress.

Student Achievement

As you are aware, student progress and achievement is a Board priority. Recently the Board has been looking at achievement trends over the past few years. There has been a recent 'dip' in the achievement of boys. Staff are monitoring closely and have Board support in implementing a range of intervention programmes.

The Board has been very pleased with the high profile that East Taieri has had recently with the ERO special reports, as well as the article in the Australian magazine 'Leadership Ed.'

A reminder that the Board welcomes feedback from the school community.

Kind regards
