ROOMS 1&2 HOME LEARNING

Lisa Agnew —

Rooms 1 and 2 are making the most of their time at home by doing some great learning at home.

Students have been keeping very active by getting out on their bikes and scooters, going on nature hunts, dancing, creating their own fitness circuits, yoga, walking the dog, and much more.

Our theme last week, as it was for many classes, was ANZAC Day. looking to discover why Anzac Day is so important for many New Zealanders. It was lovely to see Room 1 and 2 taking up the challenge by learning about the history of Anzac Biscuits (and making them of course) looking into the weapons used at Gallipoli, researching Great Grandfathers, Great Great Grandfathers and Great Great Uncles who had fought during WW1 or WW2, and much more. We had some amazing Minecraft trenches created, as well as lego monuments and fabulous poppy displays.

We also found time to write some coronavirus and lockdown poems.

Lockdown

Lockdown is grey, like plaster on a newly painted house.
It tastes like burnt cookies, and feels just as disappointing.
It smells like a wiped down wooden table, clean but with that extra weird smell.
It looks like a road with no cars, not even the fancy ones people are always trying to show off.
It sounds like wind blowing inside a canyon of empty rock.
It feels like your heart is sinking, lower and lower, the longer it goes on.

Coronavirus

The Coronavirus is blue like tears dribbling down your face.
It tastes like medicine squirting in your mouth.
It smells like hand sanitiser rubbing through your fingers.
It looks like an abandoned town, no person for miles.
It sounds quiet, quiet like an empty street.
It feels boring and repetitive, doing the same thing every day
