Senior Edgar Centre Morning

Janine Clague —

It was Friday 26 August and the Seniors packed onto the bus like a tin of sardines. Twenty minutes later we arrived at the Edgar Centre for our sports morning. We couldn't wait to have have fun, try a variety of activities and learn some new skills.

Lining up on the white line, I was ready to hit the ball to my partner.  I hit the ball with power and the ball went flying across the ground.  It was a great way to start our hockey session.  Then we did a game where we had to touch our heads to our toes and then we had to grab the ball before our buddy did.  It was a fun game until your buddy accidentally poked you in the eye.  This game carried on quickly and soon we were half way through the game.  The last game was hitting a ball through cones.  Overall it was fun! (Vinnie, Grace, Alex, Caleb)

Buzz!  The screaming timer shot through our ears like a fresh piercing.  Like lightning, we sped off to the slippery basketball courts, the air rushing past our faces as we went.  We stopped at a halt in front of our instructors who then told us to grab a ball from the scattering cluster.  The instructors then told us to start dribbling up to our hip, then we moved to below the knees, followed by shuttle dribbling.  Eventually we buddied up and started doing three passes - chest and lobs.  They made us do a certain number of these passes between our buddies.  With sweat running down our red faces the instructors decided it was time for a good old game of 'Sneak up on Granny'.   All in all we had a great time and we are all sure to remember it! (Tessa, Brooke, Cameron, Levi)

We sprinted towards our next activity as fast as we could, since we were so eager to get started on athletics.  Our leaders called us over and we began our warm up game, line tag.  Already tired and exhausted, drops of sweat the size of beads were running down our faces.  For our next activity we lined up along the white line and patiently waited for instructions.  When we understood what we were doing we started leaning  forward and going into a running position which was really scary for some people.  Lastly we all separated into teams of 4 and played a game called 'Tic Tac Toe'.  You had to run to a pad and drop a bib on it, there were six pads in total and whoever got 3 in a row first won.  We really enjoyed athletics.  (Hannah, Natasha, Jorja, London)

Walking to our next activity we got asked to line up on the bright yellow line.  The leader demonstrated what we had to do.  It was hop, skip, jump.  Once we all got the hang of it, we had a competition before playing tic-tac-toe.  We got into two teams and used bibs for counters.  To play we had to do the hop, skip, jump then run and place the bib/counter on the tic-tac-toe board.  The first team to get three in a row wins. We did four rounds then finished. (Evelyn, Christiana, Jack, Isha)

Kicking and passing back and forth to our buddies was how we started the touch session.  We moved onto playing a game of link tag.  There were taggers and when you got tagged you would link up with them.  We were being targeted by the huge line of kids.  Then we split into two groups to play games like Donkey, Cat and Mouse and Under and Over.  I kept hitting my buddy in the face with the touch ball.  After all of the activities we were all puffing like trains! (Felix S, Tom, Ellie, Cooper, Caeli)

Firstly we started with a warm up which was line-tag.  There were 4 taggers who wore bibs and the rest of the people had to run on the line.  Secondly we learnt the triple jump, where you jump, right foot, left foot, then land on both feet and see who can get the furthest.  Then we played tic-tac-toe in teams of two by placing coloured bibs on a three by three square.  The buzzer screeched and we moved on to our next activity. (Jayda, Andre, Madina, Felix T)

Hop, skip, jump was our first activity we did at athletics, whoever got the furthest in one hop, skip, jump, won.  Little did the leaders know that some people were cheating!!  But that was the least of our worries because we had to fall into a sprint!  We had to fall down for as long as possible until we caught the fall with our feet, then we had to sprint as fast as we could to reach the end.  On the next activity we got tic-tac-toe.  We used coloured hi-vis vest as the markers.  Whoever put 3 in a row going, head to head with other teams won.  After half an hour all of the teams switched activities, that's when the athletics was finished for us. (Noa, Mikayla, Eloise, Matilda)

Sprinting down the lines as we played line-tag, we started warming up for athletics.  Once line-tag was over we started learning a skill.  We had to hop on one foot then skip on the other foot and jump on two feet.  It was called Triple Jump.  Later on we started to lean forward then sprint, this made us go way faster.  Soon after we got numbered into groups to play tic-tac-toe with different coloured bibs and had to place them on the dots.  The first to get three in a row won.  You had to do triple jump to the white line, then spring to put the bibs on a dot.  The whistle blew and this meant that it was time for us to move onto the next court. (

Excitedly we sprinted onto court 12 for touch rugby.  We started our warm up by running up and down and passing back and forth.  We did some drills and then they decided to step it up and we kicked the ball to each other.  Then Jacob tried doing a drop kick and his shoe went flying!  The person who was leading it let me do a big kick and the ball hit the roof. (Charlie, Will Jacob, Jakobie)

We ran from athletics to rugby excitedly.  We screeched and sprinted towards the leaders!  We got into partners and had to pass the ball back and forth until we had to start kicking the ball to each other.  The leaders called us into a horse shoe shape and split us into two groups.  We made a circle and the leaders told us how to play Cat and Mouse.  So the rules are; there's 2 balls, 1 cat, 1 mouse and the cat is trying to catch the mouse.  In the middle of it the leader said "Change" and we had to swap ways.  (Milla, Kailee, Holly, Heidi)
