OTAGO RIPPA RUGBY TOURNAMENT
Last Monday we took 2 teams to the Otago Rippa Rugby tournament. Teams from all over Otago gathered at Forsyth Barr Stadium and played some fantastic Rippa Rugby.
Yr 3/4 East Taieri Navy had some tricky pool games, winning their first game against St Peter Chanel then narrowly losing their next two games against Balclutha schools, Rosebank and Romahapa. Unfortunately this knocked ET Navy out of the competition. All the parents and supporters were so proud of the team and the improvement everyone made since the Metro tournament. Majority of the team are Yr 3 so will be back in the Yr 3/4 grade next year with more experience. Well done to Sam G for his amazing runs with the ball, rips and sportsmanship to earn him player of the day.
Yr 5/6 ET Purple carried on their amazing form from the Metro tournament and blitz through their first 3 pool games against Waikari, St Clair and Clinton. They narrowly lost their last pool game to a well drilled St Mary's team but their fantastic results from earlier in the day allowed them to finish 4th overall and take the final spot in the semi finals. They came up against a very fast and skillful Holy Family team from Wanaka. After being down 6-2 at half time, ET fought back and bought the scores level at one stage. Unfortunately HF was just too strong and came away with a 8-6 win. The whole ET Purple team played so well all day. A special mention to Carter S for the amazing sportsmanship he showed all day, Elzanne H for stepping up and joining the team only a few days before the tournament, making some amazing runs and scoring some tries and to Luca C, our player of the day. Luca played her heart out in all the games making many try saving rips and running the ball fast and straight.
Thank you all for representing East Taieri so well. I am looking forward to next years tournament already!
