CODING WITH ROOMS 7 & 8

Garth Powell —

On Wednesday while the Stars on Stage children were away for the technical dress rehearsal at the Regent Theatre Mr Powell worked with the remaining children on coding. For this coding we didn't use devices. We discussed what computer code is and the beginnings of how it is written. We used a large grid that was masking taped on the floor. The children became 'programmers' and wrote lines of code (instructions) to get their bee to collect nectar from the 3 flowers and then arrive at the bee hive. We then came together to 'test' the code using our 'robot'. The robot could only do what it was told to do. While we were testing we were on the look out for 'bugs' (code that gave a wrong instruction). If we found a bug we had to 'debug' this and correct the code. All of our bees made it to the hive and were full of nectar!

The next step after this is to begin using a coding programme called Scratch (which is free to use online).
