OTAGO TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS GOLD MEDAL WINNERS
Huge Congratulations to all our triathletes, especially our Year 5 Girls and Boys teams who took out the Gold Medal, 1st place in the Otago Triathlon Championships in Cromwell last Wednesday.
Our young teams had to take on the strength and prior knowledge of the course that the Central Otago children had. They showed that sheer grit and determination was the winning factor as each discipline was completed. Our runners - Ruby Jones and Zac Cunningham left everything out on the course coming in off the run course in amongst the front runners. Hot on Zacs heels was Joel Bain from our other boys team too, a great run by Joel. Onto the bike went Brady Connelly and Sophie Thode for the top teams and they rode like the wind around the roads of Cromwell coming back in amongst the pack of lots of riders from all different age groups and individuals. It was very hard to tell at this stage how we were going. Off the bikes, tagging their team mates and into the pool went Matthew and Jessica Hanna. They both went into the pool reasonably close together and had a great race in the pool passing others and coming out the other end very weary looking, also having left everything in the pool.
There was a wait, a very long wait for the results as there had been some confusion out on the bike course, but our teams came through clean and took out the top placings.
Huge congratulations also to our other teams that took part and finished high in the placings in 7th and 9th. Top 10 in all of Otago is a huge achievement. Our year 6 boys team of Joel Bain runner, Samuel Cayford biker and Max Shrimpton swimming and our Year 5 boys team with Cooper Shrimpton (filling in on the day) running, Harper Conley biking and Oliver Beadell swimming.
A big thank you to all the parents that took their children through and supported them well throughout the day. A great bunch of children who represented our school with amazing motivation, determination and pride.
