BEACH EDUCATION

Belinda Duff —

As part of our water safety programme, all the classes will be involved in the Beach Education programme run by Surf Life Saving New Zealand next week.

On Wednesday 1 December, all Year 3 children will be attending a Beach Education day at Brighton beach. This is going to be an annual event for all Year 3 children to participate in for the future. The children will work with trained Lifeguards and complete beach and water safety sessions. The cost is $15 per child.

On Thursday 2 December, children in Years 0-6 (except the Year 3 children) will participate in a Surf 2 School programme based in the classrooms at school. The cost of this is $4 per child.

As there has been a steady increase in beach drownings over the years, education is the best preventive action. The cost for each of these programmes will be added to the school accounts. The school are subsiding the Year 3 programme.
