YEAR 5/6 FUN FERNS 'HAVE A GO' DAY
On Friday we had the most amazing day with 28 Year 5 and 6 girls at the Fun Ferns 'have a go' day.
The sun was shining and close to 700 Yr 5-8 girls from across Otago came together to celebrate girls and women in sport. The girls got to experience skills, drills and games in Rugby, Football and Cricket. Some girls even got to have a game of football on the brightly coloured unity pitch.
The girls showed amazing sportsmanship, enthusiasm and it was great to see everyone getting involved and having fun. We hope they run the day again next year
Below are some comments from the girls:
I had the best time! We got to do 3 activities - soccer, rugby and cricket. My fav was soccer because I got a goal and won a t shirt and we saw the mascot. Her name was Tazuni and she gave as all a sticker sheet. - Madison
It was so cool hanging out with lots of girls that are into sports and learning some new skills. - Freya
My favourite parts were the cricket games and the football skills. There was a football mascot called Tazuni and she is a penguin. - Teha
It was really fun learning new skills and I loved the batting in cricket. - Brooke
The car ride was super fun. When we arrived at the field, it looked amazing! The grass was astro turf. We sang YMCA as loud as an elephant trumpeting. My first activity was touch, ETS was with Balmacewan school. We did heaps of touch activities my favourite was rippa touch. Soccer was next, we learnt how to do the referee flags and we learnt what the different positions were, like midfield. We did drawings, redesigning our own NZ flag. After that I had some lunch. Then I did cricket, we played a game called astro meteor crash, it was my favourite. Then we went home and I was sad. I hope I get picked to go back next year. - Jasmine
