LEAF CUTTER BEEHOUSE
On Friday we were lucky enough to receive a Leafcutter Beehouse, kindly donated by Mosgiel New World. Jo from Mosgiel New World and Hayden installed the bee house in our school vegetable garden and provided us with information about these special bees.
Key facts about the Leafcutter Bee:
* Leafcutter bees belong to the Megachildae family of bee species.
* They are non-aggressive (so don't sting), non-colonising solitary bees (so don't swarm) that pollinate almost anything.
* They are an excellent alternative summer pollinator and work harmoniously with other bee species such as the honey bee and bumble bee.
* They are smaller in stature than a honey bee and can be distinctly recognised by their fuzzy, thin yellow and grey striped abdomen.
* They don't make honey
We are very excited about the new addition to our garden and can't wait for the bees to hatch in about one months time. For more information or to purchase your own Leafcutter Beehouse click on the following link https://www.beegap.co.nz
