Year 6 Camp

Janine Clague —

Last week the Year 6s went to Camp Columba in Pukerau for four days. We had awesome weather and did a range of challenging activities - kayaking, abseiling, archery, flying fox, raft building and many more. Everyone had a wonderful time. Below are some poems about our time at camp.

That Was Camp

Remember shaking so badly on the High Ropes you had to jump down?

Remember flying like superman, while screaming and yelling on the flying kiwi.

That was camp.

Remember sprinting to get in the 15 to go on the jumping pillow?

Remember trying to have the cleanest bunkroom to get food first?

That was camp.

Remember trying so hard not to get double-bounced on the jumping pillow?

Remember leaping off the pontoon in the cold murky water?

Do you remember all the memories the Year 6s made at Camp Columba?

That was camp.

That Was Camp

Remember the scavenger hunt right at the start, rolling down the hill to get things?

Remember kayaking in the scorching hot weather, the squeals as our kayak capsized and we ended up swimming?

That was camp.

Remember abseiling down the steep cliff, banging into it's rocky face?

Remember raft building and it fell apart so we bobbed around in the black rings instead?

That was camp.

Remember the flying kiwi, spinning around millions of metres in the air and pulling superman poses?

Remember the Flying Fox, flying into the pine trees and rebounding?

Remember the bonfire, sparks flying like fireworks, hot embers glowing on your stick as you roasted marshmallows?

Do you remember getting on the bus and Miss Clague forgetting he bag?

That was Camp Columba.

That Was Camp

Remember sprinting across the stones to the hall trying to be first in line for breakfast?

Remember the feeling of your feet slipping off the high ropes as you try and grab the rope?

That was camp.

Remember leaning off the edge of the cliff as you look down and tighten your grip?

Remember climbing up the pole as your hands start to become sweaty?

That was camp.

Remember going on your hands and knees cleaning your bunk room so you could go first for dinner?

Remember the feeling of getting your cold wetsuit on to jump into the murky pond?

Remember the struggle of shutting eyes and falling asleep with everyone squealing and yelling in the cabins next to you?

Do you remember all the fun memories the Year 6s had at Camp Columba?

That was camp.

That Was Camp

Remember the feeling of stretching when we finally got off the bus?

Remember the excited feeling when you saw the trampoline pillow?

That was camp.

Remember waiting ever so patiently to get served at breakfast, lunch and tea time?

Remember going to your friend's favourite activity?

That was camp.

Remember the feeling when you went down the slide in your kayak?

Remember building a raft and being the only one that worked?

Remember how hard it was to fall asleep?

Do you remember the tasty roasted marshmallows?

That was camp.

That Was Camp!

Remember the long drive in the hot stuffy bus?

Remember everyone running to get the best bunk?

That was camp.

Remember Miss Clague yelling at people on the bouncy pillow when there was too many?

Remember the scream of people going down the concrete slide?

That was camp.

Remember when the bunkroom smelt like musty, crusty bubblegum spray and when we got NO sleep?

Remember the people moaning and complaining about the food?

That was camp.

Remember the people coming into the bunkroom dripping wet and grassy from the water slide?

Remember the dizzy feeling of the Flying Kiwi?

That was camp.

Remember the amazing shot on the deer's butt in archery?

Remember the kayak capsizing in the murky pond?

That was camp.

Remember people pursued their personal best and overcame their fears?

Remember the bonfire and roasting marshmallows and nearly burning ourselves?

Do you remember when we got to see our family and sleep in our own bed?

Now that was camp!

That Was Camp

Remember sitting on the hot steamy bus for two hours?

Remember the scavenger hunt, it was so hard we had to ask for hints?

That was camp.

Remember most people fighting at our team-building activity?

Remember not having a good nights sleep?

That was camp.

Remember screaming on the flying kiwi, while doing superman?

Remember dancing with Willy when he gets his speaker out?

Remember falling off your kayak and screaming your lungs out?

Do you remember the campfire and roasting marshmallows?

That was Year 6 Camp.
