PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Jennifer Horgan —

Important Information as we plan ahead for opening school under Alert Level 3.

Kia ora koutou

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding at this challenging time for all of us. Staff are following guidelines from the Ministry of Education as we plan ahead for opening school under Alert Level 3.

The two key public health principles that support Alert Level 3 are first to minimise the risk that someone gets infected in the first place, and second to limit the number of possible contacts people have if they do get infected.

The overriding message for Alert Level 3 is to stay at home, other than for essential personal movement and going to work and school.

The key message for you is that you should keep your child at home where possible. You should physically send your child to school only if you need to. If your child has a health condition that means they are at a greater risk of a severe illness you must keep them at home. If your child is sick please also ensure you keep them at home.

In order to ensure the safety of those children and our staff who do come to school, we will be operating with strict enforcement of health and safety measures. It is important to note that while we are being advised to keep a safe social distance for students and will endeavour to do so, we can not guarantee this can happen. Here are some points to consider if your child will be coming to school:

  • Your child may not have their usual teacher or be with their usual peers.

  • Your child will be in a class bubble with 9 others and this will be the bubble they stay in during Alert Level 3 - during class time and playtime. (Playground equipment - fort, adventure playground, etc will be out of bounds).

  • Your child will continue to use the online learning programme.

  • School pick ups and drop offs may be at different times and there will be strict protocols around picking up children.

  • We will be creating a list of children who will be attending during Alert Level 3 and we will be expecting them to attend regularly.

Please note that Kelly Club is unable to operate during Alert Level 3 which means that there will be no Before or After School Care during Alert Level 3.

To provide us with the best opportunity to ensure staff, whanau and students are safe, we request that you fill out the survey that each teacher will be sending you today to let us know if you require your child to attend school during Alert Level 3. Please fill out a separate survey form for each child.

We hope that our East Taieri families continue to be safe and keep well. Thank you again for your ongoing support.
