STAFF CHANGES FOR 2018

Kei te ako. Kei te mahikatahi.

 Learning. Contributing

Surprise staffing changes for next year have left staff and Board with very mixed emotions - happy for those starting new chapters in their lives but sad for the big gaps that will be left.

Congratulations to Lucy Morris who has won a teaching position in Wanaka, starting next year. It has been a tough year for her with her partner Nick working in Wanaka, so it is great that they can be together again. A big loss for East Taieri - not only do we lose an excellent teacher, but a very talented staff member who brings her many strengths to East Taieri.

Bronwyn Holgate is taking a year's refreshment leave next year, taking time to follow her passions and take up new challenges. We look forward to seeing her return in 2019, bringing back new strengths and skills.

Karon Read has decided to give up her leadership and full-time teaching role at East Taieri.  This will leave a large void at East Taieri.  Karon's passion, knowledge, wisdom, vision and expertise will be irreplaceable. She has given a huge part of her life to East Taieri, impacting greatly on making it such a successful school. Karon has influenced the lives of hundreds of children, making the start to their school days happy and positive and ensuring that they are excited about the learning journey ahead of them. Karon has also had a great influence on the many teachers she has worked with over the years, instilling in them her strong beliefs about giving children time and treasuring their individuality. I know that this decision has been a massive one for Karon, who is now looking forward to spending more time with Simon, her girls and grandchildren, finding time for travel, her garden and pursuing her many talents. The plan is that we won’t lose her completely and hope that she will consider some part-time teaching next year.
