K9MD VISIT

Jennifer Horgan —

Janine Bolton - one of our parents who is an avid supporter of K9MD organised a school visit from the dogs and trainers last week.

The $600 that was raised from our mufti day will go towards supporting K9MD. Children really enjoyed seeing the dogs and hearing about the amazing work that they are doing in helping to detect cancer. Here is a link to the K9MD thank you page on their site.

K9 Medical Detection New Zealand Charitable Trust's mission is to improve the health of all New Zealander's by using specially trained dogs working in a controlled clinical environment to assist in the detection of cancer and other diseases. To create a simple diagnostic urine test as a value added tool in the fight against cancer.

Below are links to two podcasts that provide further information about what K9MD are doing, which you can listen to by simply clicking on the links below.

The first is an interview founder Pauline Blomfield had with Jay & Dunc on The Rock Drive Show (15 mins). They were flabbergasted this initiative is not funded yet, and have promised their ongoing support. They agree the public should know how real this is, how simple, and how life changing it will be for every Kiwi in a very short space of time.

The second is a podcast created by RNZ which goes into more detail regarding the science behind this initiative, as well as the training. It is a very interesting listen.

We encourage you to take a moment to find out what this charitable organisation is doing right here on the Taieri. The children were very interested in the K9MDs, and this presents a great opportunity for the them to be involved in helping their community and understanding how each individual really can make a difference. K9MD will be out and about over the summer letting people know about their work and fundraising, so please do say hello if you see them out and about.
