DUNEDIN PRIMARY SCHOOL RUGBY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

Jolene Casey —

What a great day on Friday for our 2 East Taieri Rugby League Teams. Impressive sportsmanship and fair play shown by both teams, culminating in a closely fought last game between the 2 East Taieri teams. See below for photos of the day and a recount from Rosie Mitchell with her take on the day.

Rugby League Tournament 2019

I step out of the warm car when suddenly the cold hits me like a bullet to the chest. As I sit under the gazebo, I begin to feel nervous, the butterflies in my stomach begin to flutter around and start to make me feel sick. We split in to our teams and go of to practise.

The buzzer goes off, 123… East Taieri - we jog onto the field and stand there facing the Waikari team, the whistle blows and kick off begins.

A boy from Waikari kicks the ball off and the game begins, the ball is passed down the line and into the possession of Zac, he sprints down the side and makes it to the try line and places it down. That's a try for East Taieri Green.

Time passes and some trys are scored, it's about half time and were in the lead. We talk about all the things we need to work on in the next half, two minutes flies bye and it's time to go back on.

123… East Taieri - we jog back onto the field and get ready to kick off, Matthew grabs the ball and kicks it towards the other team. We run up together and start to tackle the other teams players. Nine minutes pass and the games over for our first game we did a really good job and we won.

We played 2 more games and won both, one against Carisbrook and one against East Taieri Navy. I had so much fun and I would definitely do it again.
