KIWIANA-SCIENCE ROAD SHOW

Natalie King-Begg —

The Kiwiana Group at East Taieri visited the Science Roadshow. The children shared their knowledge, asked questions and got to try lots of things.

The Science Roadshow

It was a cold day when the Kiwiana group went to the Science Roadshow. When we got there we were so excited. It looked amazing! The room had different stations and we couldn’t wait to test them out. We sat down on the ground in front of what looked like a counter. Two people in matching clothes popped out of behind. “Welcome to the Science Roadshow” they said. They explained to us about science and about the highlighter yellow flags. Eventually we left to test out different stations and do our own thing.

First I tried out the one where you push things down a rail. You have to find out which thing goes down the fastest and why. I found that the smaller ones go faster because they have a lighter mass and the lighter the mass is the faster is goes. That was one clip towards winning the competition.

Next I went to the one where you find out which house is the hottest and why. I found out that the last house was the hottest because it had carpet, no windows and stuffing in the roof. After that I walked to the one where you see how high you can jump by sticking something onto a pole. I didn’t get the science behind that. “Times almost up” yelled the hosts. Quickly I ran to another yellow flag station. This one you have to see what colour is inside the box. I guessed black but when I opened it the lid inside was ……yellow? Soon I realised that I thought it was black because it was dark and that I see all the colour of the rainbow but only one of the colours reflect to my eye.

That was enough clips to enter the competition, just in time too. Because it was time to go back to school. I did not win the competition but I didn’t mind. It was a truly fascinating day.
