TAIERI 7 A-SIDE TOURNAMENT

Lisa Agnew —

On Wednesday the 8th of August the Year 6s and some Year 5s went to Taieri College to compete in the 7 a-side tournament. We played Hockey, Football, Rugby, Netball and Miniball against teams from Silverstream School and Elmgrove School. Our only winning event was one game of hockey, although we tied in all of our football matches.

What did you think about the seven a-side rugby?
The footy was pretty tough. We were versing Elmgrove and they had some pretty big team mates, while the East Taeri team had some little guys. When we played Silverstream I found out that half of their team was from my Taieri team. We got smashed! Ollie

The rugby was fun because everyone had a fair share of the ball.  They were hard games but I enjoyed playing against people from my Taieri rugby team.     Henry

What did you think about the 7 a-side soccer?
It was fun because it was challenging. The deciding game was the last game that we played against Elmgrove. Whoever won that would be the tournament winner. All three schools shared the trophy because no one scored a single goal. Kobe

The soccer was great fun. It was quite challenging because the goals were really small and goalies were defending them. The other teams had good defense. The other teams were really good and tough to play. We tried our best and we persevered. Max S

What did you think about the seven a-side mini ball?
It was great fun because it was challenging. The other teams were really tough and competitive. We tied with Silverstream - it went right down to the wire. When we played Elmgrove, we had another tough match because they had a really tall player, unlike our East Taieri team. Cooper

Well the teams were really fair.  Playing sevens is a good way to keep active because there aren’t many people on the court at the same time.  It was both challenging and super fun.  I enjoyed the 7-aside tournament because you got to play with people you haven’t played sport with before.  The other teams had a lot of tall people, but our East Taieri team  had a lot small people!

What did you think about the seven a-side netball?

It was challenging because all the schools had good defence and they had tall players. We played well and just need to work on passing it to more people, because they were only passing it to, like, 2 people.           Tyla

What did you think about the seven a-side hockey?
It was fun and challenging. We won a game and lost a game. I liked using the plastic sticks because it meant we could hit the ball with any side of the stick and there were no injuries. Asher

It was fun. You had to do a lot of running with players that haven’t played before. We had a couple of injuries. Asher hit his finger when shooting for goal and I fell over and rolled my ankle. Matilda

What did you think about the 7 a-side rugby?
It was fun because everyone had a fair share of the ball and it was fun but hard at the same time. Why was it fun? It was fun because my opponents were people from my Taieri team.   Henry

Even though we didn’t win many games at the
Taieri College 7-aside tournament,
we played hard, persevered and still had fun.
