RUGBY LEAGUE FESTIVAL

Jolene Casey —

The Annual Year 5/6 Rugby League Festival was a great opportunity for the children to experience something new.

Last Wednesday 10th of November, East Taieri had 2 teams entered into the Year 5/6 Otago Rugby League Festival Day.

We had enough for an all girls team too, which was very exciting, however, no other schools could match us and the all girls team was not able to take part.  We took 2 of our Year 6 girls girls and they played amongst the boys and played exceptionally well.  We look forward to having lots more girls involved next year and our East Taieri girls getting the opportunity.

It was a great day at the Kensington Oval, after preparing for a cold day, it turned out lovely and the weather was great for playing some very competitive games.

Our 2 teams had a fantastic day out with a mixture of wins, draws and a loss or 2, but most importantly they all had a lot of fun and learnt a lot of new skills playing a different game too.

Huge thanks to our parents helpers, especially Kim Hiko who coached one of our teams, with lots of Year 5's which is exciting for next year.  Thank you also to our parents who transported or helped the other team when Mrs Casey was attending to a medical incident.

Congratulations to our Green team who won the Tournament and to our Navy team who were placed 5=.  A great day out for all.
