INVENTION CONVENTION

Joanne Bryson —

On the last Thursday of Term 2 Room 34 held a convention to share their prototypes to potential investors.

Last term the school Inquiry focus was 'Design and Technology'.

Room 34 decided to interview a family member older than themselves to identify a problem that they had in their everyday life.

Room 34 then followed the design process to solve this problem.

STEP 1: Clarify the Problem

STEP 2: Explore Ideas

STEP 3: Do a design drawing

STEP 4: Make it

STEP 5: Test it

STEP 6: Modify it

STEP 7: Test it again

STEP 8: Problem solved

The students were enthusiastic and motivated during the design process. They all had a sense of ownership and pride towards their prototype. This was evident in the high quality display boards and professionalism during our Invention Convention.

It was a real life context for the students to be involved in as during the convention potential 'investors' placed a token in the container of the inventor who they felt had an invention that would have the greatest benefit in improving people's lives.

Thank you to the Room 34 parents who helped during this time. Providing materials for prototypes, helping students during our Step 4: Make it stage, supporting your child to organise an outfit and props and coming to view your child's final product.
