BIKE TRACK OPENING - THIS FRIDAY AT 1.30PM

Jennifer HorganFebruary 23, 2025

Our bike track is ready for its official opening! Kirsten McCrostie was sowing the last of the grass seed this morning.

The Bike Track Story:

We had a paddock behind the school carpark that we had sheep grazing in. The suggestion was made that it would be a great space for a school bike track. Bikes in Schools was contacted for design ideas and the DCC funded a design which was completed by Dr Scarlett Hagen-Jacobs, BikeSchoolNZ.

There are many people to thank for their work over a lengthy period leading up the completion of the track.

Our Home & School Committee took on the huge task of fundraising with all of the proceeds from our 2023 School Fair going towards the funding of the track. There were several delays in getting the project started but we were so grateful to Kirsten McCrostie, one of our school parents, who in collaboration with Matt Horan, another school parent and CEO of Dynes Transport Ltd, came up with a plan for the project.

We have had amazing support from local businesses. Cartage and excavation was completed by Dynes, and Excav8 Ltd which is affiliated with the Dynes Group, owned by Glen Henderson. Paul Urquhart from PGG Wrightson Real Estate Ltd donated the drainage coil and Tim Brown TC Ag Contracting Ltd, cultivated and sowed the grass at no cost. Downer Group NZ, donated plants for the track area.

Students have been excitedly awaiting the opening! The bike track is going to be an amazing facility not only for the school, but for the whole East Taieri community.

Whānau are welcome to join the school at the entrance to the bike track on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm. Children will be able to use the track next week. Initially we will have set days for certain classes.
