SPORTS INFORMATION - WEEK 5

Rachel PhillipsNovember 5, 2023

We had a very busy week of sport last week! Our usual summer sports took place with the additions of the TSSA Athletics on Tuesday and the Dunedin Primary Schools triathlon on Wednesday.

Both additional events were very successful and it was wonderful to see so many children representing East Taieri School over the two days.

TSSA Athletics:

We had just over 70 children competing at the TSSA athletics day running, jumping and throwing their hearts outs! We had some tremendous results and all children tried their personal best and did themselves proud. We have a group of children who have qualifed for the Otago Athletics on the 21st of November. I will be sending information out about this later in the week. I will post a list of the confirmed placings on the school sport website before the end of the week.

Triathlon:

On Wednesday we took 30 children to compete in the Dunedin Primary Schools triathlon. There were some tired children after a full day of Athletics the day before but everyone dug deep and did their best! We had 6 children who completed the triathlon as an individual and completed the run, bike and swim on their own. A special mention to Lani D who completed 2 legs (the run and bike) due to one of her team members waking up ill the morning of the triathlon and Ollie McH for stepping in for the swim leg to fill in for a sick team member, Ollie is only Yr 4 so we really appreciated his commitment!

Summer Sports:

Futsal:

ET Arsenal – Our girls team is doing really well. The all girls team is in the mixed league and have stepped up, and are not hanging back from those boys! They won their first game and have had 2 losses. The girls are not giving up, they don’t back down, and have smiles on their faces when they finish. They’re also working really well together and supporting each other, I’m really proud of them and their attitude to the game.

ET City - Yr 1/2 mixed team is doing really well and learning the game of futsal. They all have a positive attitude and willing to learn. It's great to see some of the older Yr 2 children take a leadership role and help out the younger children.

T-Ball - Great game today kids seem to be getting the hang of it. We are all still learning and improving. The Yankees had a great game. Ryan whacked a home run in the 2nd innings with the bases loaded and got 4 runners home safely. Oliver stepped up to backstop in a hurry. Yankees won 10-1. Player of the day going to Oliver.
