Summer Tournament Reports 2023

Bowls

TIC Dean Mower

It was great to see us as a College supporting some of the fringe sports this year. Because of the Koru games being held earlier in the term we had two teams of Year 8’s (Jether Lim & Yuan San Gabriel and Blake Seymour Nicholas Sierra) who were keen to continue with the sport and compete further. After a practice at the local green at Bowls Leeston. The teams were feeling fairly well prepared and on the day were keen to get playing. The tournament was broken into two sections of 5 teams and there was a round robin held within the section. The teams went very well winning all of their round robin games, finishing at the top of their respective pools. They then played the quarter finals and again despite some very close games they managed to win and were in the semi’s; the good thing was that because of the seeding system they did not have to play each other. In the Semi’s Juan and Jether played very well to get a comfortable win but Blake and Nicholas unfortunately lost their game in a tie breaker end. With one team playing for gold and the other playing off for Bronze the day was already a success. Blake and Nicholas ended up dominating their semi winning by three shots - they had the bronze. Yuan and Jether had a tough game against strong opposition but managed to pull ahead in the penultimate end and held on to win the gold.

Big smiles all round and a very proud teacher.

6’s Cricket

TIC Chris O’Connell

Brief report and photos please below…….

It was a full on day for our cricketers but one of fun and enjoyment. The format is intense with 6 ten over matches played across the day. Our squad was a mixture but our stand out player and captain McKenna Chynoweth stood up every game with excellent performances . We even had to ‘coach’ two new players- Bear and Trevor throughout the day who hadn’t played any cricket before and they played really well all things considering.

We were happy with qualifying for the 3rd/ 4th play-off off which we ended up losing to Halswell School so we actually finished a respectable 4th place overall.

Our team record for the day was played six- won three and lost three.

Tennis

TIC Fabiana Preston

We had a great day at Wilding Park for the Tennis Summer Tournament. The year 8’s showed great resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. Many games were won against other schools but unfortunately was not enough to secure a placing within the top three against St. Andrews College and Cathedral Grammar School. Overall the team had a great time!

Futsal

TIC Jacinta Butler

We entered a year 7 & 8 Futsal team for the first time where we took 6 boys eagerly down to Hagley. It was great to see them continue to grow their football skills and get the opportunity to play new schools in a different way. The team ended up winning over half of their matches and worked well as a team. The only complaint from the boys was their feet hurt from playing on concrete but still gave positive feedback to the event coordinators. A big well done to Finn, Corban, Josh, Oli, Sam & Noah for their efforts at the tournament.
