Youth Futures: Impacting Change in Your Future

Four Ellesmere College students attended a Youth Futures workshop at the University of Canterbury run by Grow Waitaha and Think Beyond on Wednesday 26th July.

The session involved a very thought provoking speech by Sophie Howe, who is the world’s first Future Generations Commissioner, a role that was created as part of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act in Wales.

She had everyone in the room considering the impact of planning and how the world could be for the all generations to come after us.

Students then were mixed with some of the sixty other secondary school students from Ōtautahi Christchurch and students from University of Canterbury to experience futures thinking and working with some tools and strategies to support the mahi.

Finally the groups presented to a surprise audience of supporting adults from around our region, adults working in current and futures planning. The adults had come along to hear from the rangitahi and their ideas on effecting change in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
