A look into Geography!

Our Yr. 12 and 13 Geography classes have been getting out into the field for their different internals...

The Yr. 12s went up to Porter’s Pass. They climbed up a scree slope off the side of the road their as they looked to investigate how the scree slope was formed.

The students enjoyed themselves, despite the 33 degree angle slope and the stones in their shoes!

They have just put the written part of the internal together and they are ready to start looking into how urban patterns have formed in Johannesburg.

The Yr. 13s had a day field trip to Taumutu Beach and New Brighton Beach to learn about the different physical processes that create them.

This involved profiling the beaches, and the orange test! Hurling an orange into the ocean and measuring how far it drifts one way or the other to learn about the longshore drift.

The Yr. 13s have just finished that internal and are preparing to identify the geographical factors and patterns that are associated with international piracy. They are also getting prepared for a Field Trip to Queenstown in term 3.

The Yr. 11s have just finished an assessment on Natural Events in which they looked into the creation of earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunami and more.

This included an in-depth look into tectonic plates and weather systems. They are now preparing for their first NCEA assessment in which they will learn if Dairy Farming is sustainable, which will include a look into all the amazing innovations our farmers have come up with to make the practice more sustainable.
