Year 7 Ako

Welcome to Term Three!

We welcome Celeste van Rheede van Oudtshoorn to 7Ako this term (known to students as Mrs van Oudts). Celeste has relocated from South Africa and is an enthusiastic teacher with more than 16 years of experience. She is passionate about teaching young people and loves the lightbulb moment when a learner understands something she has taught. She takes pride in providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for students. As a Year 7 Ako and CLM teacher Celeste’s goals are to impart the RISE values in every learner and create opportunities for them to become lifelong learners.

What an action packed term we have ahead with the continuation of Thursday sport for another 5 weeks, PST interviews, Maths Week and Speech competitions, to name just a few. Unfortunately due to industrial action we were unable to celebrate our learning with you at Exhibition Evening but we are excited to see you at our upcoming PST interviews to share some learning and you will see below a summary from Miss Riedel (our science lead) about the Wonder Project Rocket Challenge students were lucky enough to take part in.

Over Term Two students in 7 Ako were working on an exciting inquiry called the ‘Rocket Challenge’. During this inquiry students learnt about safety in a science lab, Newton’s three laws of motion and how to design, build and launch their own water rockets. With the help of our Rocket Challenge ambassadors, Shaun and Ofa, the students had the amazing opportunity to work through the challenge with local engineers. Thank you to Brian Perry Civil for allowing us to use their expertise during their work day. It was great to see all the students designing and building rockets for the big launch.

A huge congratulations to the three groups who got the best launches in each of their classes!

Nga mihi

Rebecca and the Year 7 team.
