Football

The team was excited to be part of the middle Quad this year.

We took 15 students for football who despite the rain, cold wind and black skies, had a positive attitude. We started off versus the hosts, Darfield, who gave us a run for our money.

The game was close but ended in a 2-1 win for us. After our morning tea break, the rain began to pour and the pitch became slippery and muddy. We took on Geraldine where we fought hard to hold possession of the ball.

This game quickly became physical and many of the players hit the deck. We ended up coming away with a 1-0 win which the team were pleased with.

Going into the final game against Mt Hutt College was exciting as the students wanted a clean sweep win streak. This game was gruelling and took all of our players giving it 100% of their effort. At half time the score was a draw with 1 goal each and it was clear that the teams were evenly matched.

Both teams took great goal scoring opportunities but missed by a margin until Rhys Mahony sunk one into the net! The rest of our team celebrated and moved into defense for the last 5 minutes. A concluding score of 2-1 left the team stoked with a 3 game win.

Aside from the actual game play, the students were also respectful, empathetic and showed great sportsmanship throughout. We took along a year 8 student, Ethan Amyes as he was unable to attend junior Quad, and the team included him as one of their own.

The outstanding performance of our goalie Reuben Quilter made him the clear player of the day for the tournament as he dove for multiple beautiful shots from the opposition that could have seen a very different result without him.

A huge thank you to the other three schools who gave us tough but well played games as well as to parents and supporters that came out to Darfield to watch.
