Whānau Spirit update

Last Term saw the students go head to head in EC’s first ever Taskmaster...

The competition was close but had Rāta pull ahead in the final week. Some of the activities included building paper planes, eating dry crackers, unravelling a human knot and of course, a tug of war. The current overall scores have Rāta in first, Kōwhai closely behind, then Rimu and lastly Tōtara. Here is what some of the students said about completing TaskMaster:

I enjoyed doing the challenges, especially the tug of war because it was cool and we got to verse the teachers. I loved seeing the teachers get involved and how you got to miss a bit of class and have fun with your friends. (Sam Fearnley, Year 7)

My favourite taskmaster challenge was the bluff challenge because it was fun to see how much of a liar or how much of a truth-teller someone was. I found it funny when I won and when I lost because when you get in a situation, it is quite difficult to keep a straight face. (Morgan Pullan, Year 12)

Although I wasn’t there for many of the challenges, I heard a lot of excitement from my classmates. Especially the dry race where they had to eat a whole packet of crackers the fastest. (Xanthe Morton, Year 9)

This Term students will be competing in an old classic… The Haka Challenge. This will involve everyone learning the school Haka and performing this against the other whānau groups.

Additionally, there will be a fun relay afternoon where students can clock up the points towards the end of year shield. As always, our Bronze badge leaders will be running activities throughout the term that all year levels should aim to get involved in, to earn points, and more importantly, have fun!
