Health & Physical Education

Term three’s Health and Physical Education newsletter has a focus on our year twelve classes.

In year twelve we have one class operating in each of our areas, Health Education and Physical Education. Both of these courses have a huge academic focus and set our senior students up well for success at university or other further education. Some areas that it can be particularly beneficial for are; the health sector, personal training, teaching, social working and any other career that involves leadership.

This term our year 12 Health class has been focusing on health promotion. They have had to complete a health promotion initiative week where they promoted one aspect of well-being around the school and how you could improve it. Some groups decided to promote our nurse service, our counselling service and some decided to promote how you can deal with stress. This is a timely assessment with our externals coming up and they provided some students with a practical way they can deal with the pressures of this. Next in line for our health students is the draft grade exams followed by the external exams in term four.

In the physical education realm our year 12 Physical Education class has been focusing on social responsibility. They have looked at Allison’s model of social responsibility where they have had to reflect on how they behave in class and participate in all the activities we do. They have also begun to look at a leadership unit where they will lead the other members of their class through a physical education lesson. Sport studies class has been working hard down local gym with I’ve been following a personal improvement program where they have the help of a personal trainer to develop and implement. They will next focus on a performance unit where they perform a sport and assist based on how well they do.

It’s going to be a busy end to the term for all of our classes, particularly our health class as they prepare for derived grade exams and then their external exams next term. We wish them all the best with this.
