Science Department

As the academic year progresses, we're excited to share some updates and highlights from our department.

We would like to extend our warmest wishes to Anita Collett, who is currently on maternity leave. Little Sofie was born on Monday 7th August. We're thrilled for this new chapter in Anita's life and eagerly await her return. In the meantime, we're grateful to have Fabiana Preston and Helen Katandawa stepping in to ensure the continued success of the Level Two and Three Biology classes. We are confident that they will maintain the high standards of education and engagement that our students deserve.

A round of applause for our enthusiastic 9AKO students who have been diving into the fascinating world of the cardiovascular system through hands-on dissections. Their active involvement and curiosity have been truly inspiring to witness. Engaging in practical experiences like these is an essential part of understanding the intricate workings of the human body. We commend our students for their dedication and willingness to explore the world of science.

Our Year 12 students recently participated in an engaging Chemistry Day where they tackled an internal assessment task focused on titration techniques. This practical exercise allowed them to apply their theoretical knowledge and hone their laboratory skills. We believe that such experiences are invaluable in fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter and preparing our students for the challenges that lie ahead.

It is important for our Year 12 and 13 students to begin gearing up for their upcoming practice exams in Week 8 of this term. These assessments are crucial for gauging progress and identifying areas for improvement. They are also used by NZQA as derived grades in case of a student missing the NZQA subject exam in November. We encourage all students to reach out to their subject teachers to inquire about additional study sessions that may be available. Taking advantage of these opportunities can make a significant difference in exam preparation.

We want to remind everyone that our department is here to support each and every student on their educational journey. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Let's continue to work together to foster a love for science and create a vibrant learning community.
