Sports Awards for 2023

A massive thanks goes out to our key staff members and members of the community for their efforts to get sport off the ground and to create positive experiences for our students.

Kia Ora!

Speaking of our community volunteers, we would not be able to offer what we can in Sport, here at Ellesmere, without your valuable support and the generous donation of your precious time.

This is something that has been spoken about over the last couple of years and I would personally like to encourage more members of the community to get involved in school sport so we can offer a wider range of activities at the College.

With limited resources available and continuing pressures and workload mounting on teaching staff, we need your help to enhance our sports programme here at Ellesmere College.

I would also encourage and welcome any of our Year 13’s who are leaving the College this week to offer their help next year if they can find the time……

I would like to express a big thank you to:

STAFF

Thanks to the teachers that have stepped up and put in the mahi this year to ensure we had an increase in participation especially during the winter season.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS

You are the ones that drive your kids to where they need to be, do the washing, help manage teams, buy the cheeseburgers and chips after the games in town and are there on the sidelines to cheer your sons and daughters on.

Key people:

  • Mr Bert Knops (on his last sports awards) for his oversight of Sport as a Senior Manager- for his advice and encouragement.

  • Liz Corbett (caretaker)- for making our grounds the envy of opposing teams who come and visit.

  • Dean Mower- always there with the camera to get the action shots and for doing a superb job of the formal sports photos that appear in the school mag. (some on display)

  • Deborah Poorter, our sports coordinator who does a fabulous job behind the scenes with the admin to make sport work and run like a well-oiled machine. Thanks for your efforts in the organisation of tonight. Trophy’s and certificates and making sure we have them in the correct order!!

  • Trelise Christian- our sports leader this year and what she has done for sport at the College. The student Sports Committee has been a proactive and enthusiastic group who have supported Trelise admirably.

There has been so many volunteers that I am not going to mention by name/ or call them onto the stage who have supported us this year and please accept mine and The College’s personal; thanks for your time and commitment this year.

…………………………………………………………………………………..

Last week, our Sports, Arts and Cultural awards evening concluded with the Blues award and Sports Dux award.  Below are a list of the most prestigious Sports Awards that were awarded during the evening, we are so proud of all of these achievements!
