Principal's Message

Kia ora

I hope that this message finds you well. Winter is definitely starting to arrive with a drop in temperatures. coinciding with this is the arrival of the last tranche of new uniform items, details of which we have sent out via our app and Facebook.

Winter sport has kicked off and it is fantastic to see a massive up-surge in numbers of students taking part in sport. Well done to everyone involved! You can find the results from the first week of winter sport further down in this newsletter.

Today we had a practice lockdown and shelter-in-place.  Students and staff did a fantastic job and placed their roles well. It is important that we do practice our emergency responses regularly so that all members of our community know what to expect and how to behave. It is important that all parents/caregivers have the SchoolApp downloaded on their phone with push notifications enabled as this will be one of the ways we will notify you of an emergency.

Term 1 junior reports have been sent out today. It is worth spending time reading through the report with your son/daughter. They have played a significant role in the reports having been through a self-reflective process and writing a comment which is included. Next week senior tick reports will be sent out in preparation for senior subject teacher-parent interviews. A weekly engagement report is also available to parents through the Kamar portal.

PPTA industrial action is continuing and at time of writing there does not seem to have been much progress to resolve the impasse between the PPTA and Ministry of Education. This is frustrating and unsettling for everyone. We are currently in the midst of the worst teacher supply crisis in the history of the country in all subject areas. Mrs. Stevenson has recently resigned and will be relocating to Western Australia at the end of this term and we are currently waiting for a Science teacher from the United Kingdom to arrive. It certainly is an interesting time to be an educational leader!
