Change in School Donations

Information about increase in school donations.

Schools across the country have traditionally been underfunded for the services that they are expected to provide. The shortfall in funding has had to be made up through fundraising efforts and locally-raised sources. One of these sources is a voluntary donation while the other was mainly international students. As borders have only recently reopened after being closed for over two years, we have had no income from international students for some time.

Over the past decade there has been little change to the voluntary donation which the College has requested. However, as costs continue to rise the Board of Trustees Finance Sub-Committee has decided to increase the voluntary donation to $150 for one student and to $200 for two or more students. This is in line with other schools in the area. The voluntary donation helps to fund extra counsellors, teachers, teacher aides, sports, school van and other extra-curricular activities. As we are a decile 8 school we are unable to access the Ministry of Education Donations Scheme (as this is only available to decile 1-7 schools). The voluntary donation is tax deductible and we thank those of you who continue to support the College by paying the voluntary donation.
